ZAMBOANGA CITY — One died while two others were injured when an industrial steam machine of one of the canning factories here exploded before noon Tuesday, the police said.
Major Chester Natividad, Police Station 9 chief, disclosed the explosion occurred around 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Southwest Asia Canning Corporation in Calle Dumagsa, Zone 1, Barangay Talisayan, some 26 kilometers west of City Hall.
Natividad identified the fatality as Zacarias Rico, 49, an assistant operator of an industrial steam machine or commonly known as a boiler. Wounded were Francisco Dumagal, 39, boiler operator; and, Mark Anthony Villaflores, 28, safety officer.
Natividad said initial investigation showed the victims were undertaking repair works when the boiler suddenly exploded.
He said the estimated cost of damage was placed at PHP1.5 million.
Firemen, policemen, and City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office personnel rushed to the canning factory to provide assistance to the wounded workers. (PNA)
