Before World War II, Manila was one of the most beautiful cities in Asia. A bit of Europe in the heart of the orient. But after the guns were silenced in 1945, what was left was the gutted ruins of a once proud and elegant city. Manila never really fully recovered from that. And all we have now are the photographs of her glory years, and the downfall that followed.
