DAVAO CITY, January 11, 2017 — President Rodrigo Duterte welcomed new ambassadors from various countries in simple ceremonies yesterday.
The new ambassadors are the following:
- Ambassadors Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Mohammed Rida El Fassi of Morocco
- Venetia Sebudandi of Rwanda
- Shiferaw Jarso Tedecha of Ethiopia
- Anne Namakau Mutelo of Namibia
A Palace statement said Estonian Ambassador to the Philippines Jaak Lensment was also scheduled to arrive but was able to make it citing bad weather.
The presentation of credentials to the President of a host country is a diplomatic requirement for newly-appointed ambassadors before they begin their tour of duty, the Presidential Communications Office said.
Meanwhile, President Duterte honored outgoing Vietnamese Ambassador to the Philippines Truong Trieu Duong during a scheduled farewell call.
Ambassador Duong was conferred with the Order of Sikatuna, with the rank of Grand Cross Gold Distinction or “Datu Katangiang Ginto.”
Duterte lauded the relationship between the Philippines and Vietnam, which was one of the countries President Duterte visited in his first series of state visits last year.
In the citation, Ambassador Duong was recognized for showing his “demonstrated concern for the Filipinos” during national calamities, particularly in the aftermath of Typhoon Haiyan, and for his “laudable representation of his government”, which gained the momentum of vibrant relations between the Philippines and Vietnam.
