DAVAO CITY, March 9, 2017 — President Rodrigo Duterte has tasked the hundreds of chief executives in Central Mindanao to shape up their campaign against violent groups, including terrorists, or he would be forced to declare martial law in Mindanao.
Duterte met with around 170 chief executives at the SMX Convention Center in Lanang after he visited the wake of two of the slain cops who were ambushed in Bansalan, Davao del Sur.
Duterte claimed that there at least 60% of the incidents of illegal firearms were in Central Mindanao.
The chief executives, he said, should inform police and military about the whereabouts of terrorists, and other criminals in their jurisdictions.
Otherwise, he said he would find it difficult to deliver the promise of federalism and a Bangsamoro state in the region.
Duterte meanwhile said that his choice of sending rogue cops to Basilan was a different case and that it would not affect his desire for better police work in the region.
