Magnitude 6.0 quake hits Lanao del Sur

COTABATO CITY, April 12, 2017 (PNA) — A magnitude 6.0 quake hit Lanao del Sur early today (Wednesday).

In its bulletin, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the tremor was felt at 5:21 a.m.

It was tectonic in origin and traced 6 kilometers west of upland town of Wao. It had a depth of 1 kilometer.

The tremor was also felt in surrounding areas of Lanao del Sur.

Intensity IV was felt in Davao City, Cagayan de Oro City, Cotabato City, and Gingoog City in Misamis Oriental.

Phivolcs said damage was expected but none have been reported so far.

As of this writing, six aftershocks have been recorded in the area. (PNA)
