300 members of the Regional Mobile Force Battalion (RFMB) are to be deployed this week to augment the force of the Davao City Police Office for the coming Kadayawan Festival.

The Police Regional Office (PRO)-11 is behind this decision. PRO-11 director Chief Supt. Manuel Gaerlan on Saturday stated that “We have already conducted a series of meetings and preparations together with the local government unit of Davao City, particularly the Public Safety and Security Command Center (PSSCC), and we are contributing even at the regional level.”

“I have committed to the Davao City Police Office at least 300 additional warm bodies to augment in securing Kadayawan activities,” Gaerlan added.

These measures are being taken to assure the safety of any visitors and to ensure the success of the festival. Gaerlan gave his assurances that Kadayawan will be free from any terrorist acts.

Besides the deployment of additional forces, PRO-11 is also closely coordinating with the regional intelligence center to better enhance security preparations.

“But you know the most important is the participation of the public. If you observe suspicious looking things in your area, in business establishment that they might have check in, they must report. They (terrorists) make use of small inn,” Gaerlan said, stressing the importance of public participation and good citizenship.

The RFMB will join the 15,000 strong security forces from the DCPO, Task force Davao, volunteer police auxiliary, other law enforcement agencies, and force multipliers that will be deployed during the festival.Chief of the PSSCC Benito De Leon said that these forces will be strategically deployed to key areas during the festival, especially for major Kadayawan.

Festival organizers are expecting more visitors for this year’s Kadayawan. All parties want to ensure that this year’s celebrations are nothing but good fun.
