DAVAO CITY, March 20, 2017 — The coin co-introduced by President Rodrigo Duterte during the launching of the Philippines’ ASEAN chairmanship last January is already in circulation, according to the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas.

“The issuance of the ASEAN commemorative coin aims to promote greater public awareness and interest on the Philippines’ ASEAN Chairmanship in 2017 and ASEAN cooperation in general,” the BSP said.

The ASEAN commemorative coin is a legal tender, the agency added.

On the obverse side, the coin has elements of the ASEAN 50 Philippines 2017 logo.

The same side also has markings comprising the ASEAN chairmanship theme “Partnering for Change, Engaging the World,” 10 stars to represent the member states, a sun and dove of peace, and the BSP mint mark spelled in Baybayin.

On the reverse side, the coin has the image of the Jose Rizal monument, the BSP seal, the words “ASEAN 2017” and “REPUBLIKA NG PILIPINAS”.

At the bottom of the reverse side is the list of ASEAN member states.
