In an interview yesterday with CNN’s the Source with Pinky Webb, the Speaker of the House of Representatives offered some blunt tips to Vice President Leni Robredo. Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano’s advice for Robredo as she wraps up her first week as the country’s new “drug czar”: stop talking. While that may seem harsh, it came from a place of practicality.
Speaker Cayetano confessed to having been monitoring Robredo’s progress as the co-chief of the Interagency Committee on Anti-Illegal Drugs. It seems that the veep’s plan is to take Oplan Tokhang, the administration’s hard-hitting stance against illegal drugs, and turn it into Oplan All-Talk, a much softer version where nothing actually gets done and the term health-based gets through a lot.
For three years, Robredo has had the opportunity to vocally criticize the administration’s anti-illegal drug campaign. Now, she’s a woman on the inside but she can’t help but parrot herself – health based approach, loss of innocent life, the campaign is a failure, etc. It’s as if she’s used her first week for nothing but media gab and that’s just a shameful waste of time.
Instead of Oplan All-Talk, Speaker Cayetano advised that Robredo “be involved in all the meetings, get yourself acquainted, and everything, then do the talking later”.
