Leila De Lima, one of President Duterte’s most vocal critics, has come out with an “open letter” addressed to the President, where she admits that there are indications that drug lords and corrupt government officials are behind some of the killings that are now being blamed on Duterte.

She further states that the motive could be to hide their heinous participation in the ilegal drug trade. A theory that has been mentioned numerous times by the Philippine National Police, various security experts, and even ordinary citizens.

It can be recalled that De Lima herself is not a stranger to accusations of protecting drug lords and criminals. It was during her time as Secretary of the Department of Justice that a number of high profile inmates at the inappropriately-names New Bilibid Prisons were discovered to have continued running their criminal empires from the comfort of their own multi-million pesos suites within the prison compound. De Lima herself was pictured in meetings with some of the inmates.
