DAVAO CITY, Apr. 4, 2017 — President Rodrigo Duterte has awarded the thousands of homes occupied by homeless protesters to the members of Kadamay, giving in to the demands of the urban poor seeking housing assistance from the government in Bulacan.
President Duterte has also instructed the National Housing Authority (NHA) to furnish the homes with a bed each.
“This ruckus in Bulacan eh parang inagaw ng mga kapwa nating Pilipino na mahirap din. I will look into the matter seriously, and I will ask you, soldiers and the policemen, bitawan na lang ninyo iyan. Ibigay na lang natin sa kanila tutal mahirap sila,” President Duterte said.
Duterte vowed that the soldiers and police officers would have their own homes by December.
“I promise you, I will look for another land nearby or adjacent or maybe contiguous to that area there, and gagawa ako nang mas maganda — may tubig na at may electric na pagpasok ninyo,” Duterte said.
Duterte said there would be a better housing program for the soldiers and cops, if they were willing to help.
“So bigyan ko kayo nang mas maganda, mas konting mahal, mas komportable, at mas malaki,” he said.
“Ngayon, iyong Kadamay, ibigay ko na lang iyan sa inyo. Huwag ninyong paalis iyong mga sundalo pati pulis na nandiyan na; but eventually they will be removed and transferred to a new… na mas maganda pa sa inyong inagaw, para hindi na kayo mag-agaw. Ayaw ko kasing pilitin ang isyu because it would somehow result in bugbugan, mga paluan. And to think that our sin is just talagang mahirap lang tayo.”
Duterte was addressing the guests of the Armed Forces of the Philippines during its 120th Founding Anniversary.
