TALAVERA, Nueva Ecija, April 5 (PNA) — President Rodrigo Duterte today said he has just fired an undersecretary over allegations of corruption, adding that four others will have to go.
“There will be five in all,” the President said in a speech during the Grand Harvest Festival here.
Duterte did not name the undersecretary, but Agriculture Secretary Emmanuel Piñol later identified her as Maia Chiara Halmen Valdez, a lawyer from the Office of the Cabinet Secretary.
Piñol said the President believed that Valdez overstepped on the power of the National Food Authority (NFA) in allowing the importation of rice.
Valdez is a holdover of the Aquino administration under the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process. (PNA)
