MANILA, April 5, 2017 (PNA) — Malacañang today said the results of a recent poll showed that a large majority of Filipinos still trust President Rodrigo Duterte despite the “vicious noise” orchestrated by his fiercest critics.

According to the “Ulat ng Bayan” survey released by Pulse Asia Research, Inc., the performance rating of President Duterte dropped five points nationally, from 83 percent in December 2016 to 78 percent in March.

The President’s trust rating also dropped seven points, from 83 percent last December to 76 percent in March.

The survey was conducted from March 15 to 20, 2017.

“The continued high approval of PRRD et al, as validated by the latest survey results, proves that the majority appreciate the decisiveness of President Duterte,” Presidential spokesperson Ernesto Abella said in a statement.

“The people continue to embrace the President’s vision of a nation that works for the prosperity of all; a trustworthy government; and lasting peace, considering that the survey coincided with vicious noise from the President’s fiercest critics,” he added.

Abella said the “vicious noise” included the following:

  • the filing of an impeachment complaint against Duterte last March 16
  • the Senate appearance of a self-confessed but perjured assassin
  • human rights reports highly critical of the Duterte administration’s campaign against illegal drug traffickers and violators
  • the internationally aired video message of Vice President Leni Robredo

Abella said the high confidence level enjoyed by Duterte among Filipinos has also proven that “the attacks of opportunists like (Senator Antonio) Trillanes and his ilk are baseless and malicious.”

“Nevertheless, the seemingly orchestrated events from parties threatened by the housecleaning efforts of the current administration have not dampened the sentiments of the common people, and those unheard and underserved by past administrations,” Abella said. (Cielito M. Reganit/PNA)
