Former Vice-President Jejomar Binay was finally able to cast his vote for the national and local elections, despite his earlier attempts this morning leading to his ballot being rejected a total of eight times by the vote counting machine (VCM) in San Antonio High School, Makati City.
According to the Commission on Elections (Comelec), the fault lied with the VCM. Several other politicians in Pasig City, including Senators Grace Poe and Nancy Binay as well as Pasig City Councilor and mayoral bet Vico Sotto have been affected by VCM issues alongwith thousands of other voters.
According to Sotto, at least 35 VCMs in Pasig are affected.
“I have not voted. I chose to wait until the machine is working before I enter my vote,” he told reporters.
Former VP Binay said that he has since been issued a new ballot.
“I saw them cross out my ballot. Normally, they rip that up,” he told reporters. “This is an instance where they have to ensure a new ballot.”
