Senator Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go continues to visit Filipinos especially the poor and indigent Filipinos affected by fire incidents. The day after the opening of the 18th Congress of the Senate of the Philippines and President Rodrigo Duterte’s fourth State of the Nation Address (SONA), Go went straight to 29 Kapiligan of Brgy. Doña Imelda in District 4, Quezon City to check the status of 139 families who lost their homes because of the fire that razed through their homes on July 19.
In his message to the victims, Go stated that although his priority right now is his mandate in the Senate, he said that his vow was always to help the Filipino nation in or out of the Senate office.
“Tulad ng pangako ko sa inyo, handa akong magserbisyo. Sabi nila [kung] senador, dapat nandoon lang kami sa Senado [pero] sabi ko ko, hindi ko po matiis na nandoon lang sa Senado,” Go said.
Go added that it was his promise to go through every street and nook anywhere around the country. “Papasukin ko po [at pupuntahan] kayo basta kaya lang ng aking katawan,” the senator said.
The senator’s visit was warmly welcomed as Go himself also brought immediate relief assistance to the 523 victims. He brought grocery packs, cash assistance, and food. Go also was accompanied by representatives of different government agencies such as DOH, DSWD, PAGCOR, PCSO and NHA to help assess needed additional assistance for fire victims, most especially housing assistance.
Go also mentioned to the fire victims that he will always remain strongly supportive of the current administration most especially to President Duterte’s legislative agenda. He also said that he had already filed 20 legislative measures in the Senate that will help achieve his and President Duterte’s vision for a better Philippines.
“Narinig niyo kahapon, binanggit ng Pangulo,” Go told the fire victims pertaining to the legislative measures he filed in the Senate that were mentioned by the President yesterday in his SONA.
In an ambush interview, Go told members of the press that “up to the last day of the 18th Congress ipaglalaban ko na maipasa ang legislative measures ko para marating ang tunay na pagbabago na minimithi natin para sa kabutihan ng bawat Pilipino.”
Twelve of Go’s filed 20 legislative measures were mentioned by the President at his SONA.
“Ang legislative agenda namin ni PRRD ay hindi nagkakaiba. Lahat iyon ay people-oriented at service-oriented,” Go said. He further emphasized that they have the same priorities as President Duterte.
“Iisa ang hangarin namin — kabutihan, interes at serbisyong mabilis para sa tao, Go added.
