MANILA, September 13, 2018 — Special Assistant to the President (SAP) Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go today encouraged drug users to avail themselves of free drug rehabilitation provided by the government.
“Libre naman po ito sa gobyerno. May mga rehab centers po tayo,” Go said in an ambush interview after speaking at the 14th Annual Convention of Philippine College of Addiction Medicine (PCAM) at the Holiday Inn Galleria, Ortigas Center.
(This service is free from the government. We have a number of rehab centers.)
He also urged parents to bring drug-dependent children to these rehabilitation centers for treatment.
“Ine-encourage ko po ang mga magulang, kung mayroon kayong mga anak na talagang naging biktima nitong napakarupok na droga, ay ilapit ninyo na lang po sa mga rehab centers,” he said
(I encourage the parents, if you have children who have become victims of illegal drugs, bring them to a rehab center.)
In his speech during the PCAM convention, Go lauded the doctors for being instrumental in giving drug dependents a second chance.
“Itong mga doktor na nandirito ngayon, isa po sila sa mga tumutulong sa mga rehab centers natin para mapagamot ang ating mga kababayan na nalulong po sa droga at mabigyan po sila ng panahon at pagkakataon na mag-bagong buhay,” he said.
(The doctors present here are among those who have been helping our rehab centers in treating citizens who have been addicted to drugs. These drug dependents are getting a chance to lead a new life.)
Go said aside from rehabilitation, the Duterte administration is also pushing sports as a program to address the drug problem.
Go himself has the “3-Pointer ng Bayan” program that is designed to keep the youth from using illegal drugs.
Under the program, Go gives basketball equipment to schools to help develop young athletes. He also holds three-point shootout games to encourage the youth to become better athletes.
“It provides an outlet for the youth to spend their free time and relieve boredom, keeping them away from destructive vices, crime, and illegal drugs. Ang programa talaga ng gobyerno ni Pangulong Duterte ay ilayo sila sa droga (The program of the Duterte administration is to steer them away from drugs), so we encourage this type of tournament,” Go said in an earlier interview.
