James Deakin exposes possible date rape modus – BEWARE

Automotive journalist James Deakin took to his Facebook page to expose a possible date-rape modus to his 500,000+ followers.

According to Deakin’s post, a female friend of his called him out of the blue while on a date. His friend’s tone and voice signaled that she was obviously under distress. She was able to communicate to Deakin that she was in the company of someone she felt threatened by. She ended the call in a terrifying manner – she told Deakin that she was at Single Origin in Rockwell, and that if something terrible happened to her, that is where to start looking.

Thankfully, Deakin’s friend was able to make it to her car and drive off. She was able to recount the events of her “date” to Deakin and it’s honestly terrifying.

Her date, a foreign national of unstated identity, asked at some point during their date to use her phone. He gave a lot of excuses and reasons so she let him use it. However, after a few minutes, she asked for it back and made the horrifying discovery of what he was doing.

The innocent gesture of allowing someone who seemed desperately in need to use her phone was used by this predator to attempt to dowload tracking apps on her phone. She checked her search history and found that her “date” was attempting to install monitoring software on her phone. If he had succeeded, he would have been able to see her messages, access her camera and microphone, see videos and photos, call history, and even her location. He also would have the ability to wipe her phone at any time.

The many possible sinister intentions he may have had are not just limited to identity theft or fraud – he would be perfectly equipped to track her down and then disable her only means of communicating her need for help.

Since then, the foreign national has gone into hiding. He’s deleted his Viber and Whatsapp as well as deactivating his two phone numbers. His last contact with his victim was a Viber file message which she deleted without opening.

The foreigner reportedly goes to school in the Philippines and has a clerkship with a local firm. Deakin however, did not reveal his identity or post his photo. While he understands the danger of leaving a predator like that to roam free, he wants to allow the law to catch the guy. By not releasing his name, he is allowing a police investigation to continue unhampered.

Still, before this man is brought to justice and before we know is he was acting alone or was part of some disgusting pick-up artists gang, it is important that everyone knows about this modus.

Stay safe.
