Communist Party of the Philippines founder and known terrorist Jose Maria “Joma” Sison has claimed that the US can order for the ousting of President Duterte without even firing a shot or deploying any army. According to Sison, the US has such a strong following in the military and police forces that just the whisper of a suggestion from the western nation would effectively brainwash our troops into taking President Duterte into custody as a traitor and installing the alleged Vice President Leni Robredo as the constitutional successor.
Yes, it’s as crazy as it sounds.
Department of National Defense (DND) Secretary Delfin Lorenzana thought as much, though he phrased his criticism much more diplomatically.
As Spox (Presidential Spokesperson Salvador) Panelo said, it’s ‘wishful thinking’ by Mr. Sison. It won’t happen,” Lorenzana said.
“It is pitiful that this man has to rely on a foreign country to effect a change of leadership in this country. It is an admission, in fact, that their revolution has failed,” Panelo said.
The AFP also dismissed Sison’s proposal, though they did not mince words.
“This coward has gone insane. He is already muttering words of an old man whose memory has abandoned him. Come back to the Philippines and face reality,” AFP public affairs office chief Col. Noel Detoyato said.
Detoyato stressed that the Philippines, as a sovereign nation, has its own democratic institutions. The AFP official also said they are not arresting President Duterte anytime soon.
This newest oust-Duterte plot is appealing to the blind critics of the administration, but obviously insane for anyone with their head screwed on even slightly.
Sison has historically hated the US and the feelings seem to have been mutual. In 2002, the US declared Sison a “person supporting terrorism”, though the EU in 2009 ruled to delist him. He’s been living out his exile in the Netherlands, watching his life’s work, the CPP, fall apart and with it any semblance of relevancy for the man.
The CPP, along with its armed wing the New People’s Army (NPA), is listed as a terrorist organization by the United States, the European Union, the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and the Philippines.
