The President of De La Salle University has written a pastoral letter is urging “the members of the Lasallian educational communities to speak up against the rising cases of drug and crime-related killings.” As an educator, should he be asking them to study the issues first, before speaking out?


GMA and TV5 news recently reported the alleged “harassment” of inmates at the New Bilibid Prison by the newly installed Special Action Force (SAF) Commandos manning the facility. The reports were based on a unverified story told prison chaplain Roberto Olaguer of an inmate being hit by a SAF trooper for no reason at all. As a news organization with millions of pesos in their budget, shouldn’t they have verified the story first before airing it?
