It’s been about three years since Maine Mendoza transitioned to mainstream success from being a viral sensation on musical dubbing app DubSmash. But it seems Mendoza’s star is not at all ready to wane. The versatility and longevity of her career as a top celebrity is an accomplishment for an industry known to be obsessed with the next big thing. She has an impressive list of projects under her belt, including three movies and of course the long-running mini-series Kalyeserye, which ran on the popular noontime show Eat Bulaga!. But it appears that by now she has grown enough to step out from under the shadow of her role as ‘YayaDub’. This month, Mendoza proves yet again that there is much more to her than just her comedic chops by gracing the cover of MEGA Magazine by herself, without the usual gimmick or love team.
The cover is shot by Mark Nicdao and shows Mendoza standing proud and strong in a silver corseted gown, with balloons behind her. The actress and comedienne posted a photo of the cover on her Instagram page, captioning it “Exactly where I want to be”. This is the second cover featuring Mendoza. She was featured in the magazine’s October 2016 issue, which was shot in Morroco.
