Ginger ale is a healthy and refreshing way to cool down after a hard day at work. It is sweet and tangy, and is so easy to make that you’ll be sharing this recipe with friends and family in no time.
Start off by going to the supermarket to buy your ginger. Try to get the bigger ones as they will be easier to peel. One kilo should be enough to make a 2-weeks supply of ginger syrup.
Once you have the ginger, scrape off the skin using a spoon.
Rinse them in running water and slice into thin strips.
Toss the ginger into a pot, add three cups of water, and bring to a boil. Let it bubble for about 10 minutes before adding one cup of white sugar. Stir until the sugar is dissolved into the mixture. Take the syrup out of the heat and let it simmer for another 15-20 minutes.
Pour the mixture through a sieve to separate the ginger (you can still use these in other dishes, or discard them) and set it aside to cool.
To make your Ginger Ale, just add one tablespoon of the ginger syrup in a glass of soda water. Add ice and a slice of lemon to give it that extra tang. Enjoy!
