DAVAO CITY (June 29, 2016) — The Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) and the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) today signed a joint statement to unify their peace efforts as they engage with incoming President Rodrigo Duterte for the resumption of the peace talks.

The agreement was signed in Camp Darapanan in Sultan Kudarat, Maguindanao by MNLF chair Muslimin Sema and MILF chair Al Haj Murad Ebrahim for MILF.

The two leaders said the union of the two groups is a product of the principles of unity laid down in the different meetings between the MNLF, MILF, and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) from 2014 to 2015.

Under the agreement, the two groups have agreed to organize a Joint Technical Working Group (JTWG) which is tasked with “finding common ground between the 1976 Tripoli Agreement/1996 Final Peace Agreement (FPA) on the one hand, and the 2014 Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro (CAB) on the other, as a means of harmonizing the two peace tracks.”

Ebrahim and Sema declared a cohesive stand to join the efforts of the two Moro groups to regain their “lost freedom and self-determination” and “enjoy the blessings of peace, justice and development.”
