Our country’s hosting of the 30th SEA Games has been a success all around. The long preparation before the Games, including the planning and execution of the largest sports infrastructure initiative the country has ever seen, has paid off. Athletes are enjoying their ability to compete in world-class facilities. Fans are witnessing history in the making. And the international sports community has recognized the Philippines’ hosting achievements on multiple achievements. We have a bright future ahead as a sports tourism destination, with some European Olympic teams looking to train in the country for Tokyo 2020 and encouragement to big for the 2030 Asian Games already being reported.

However, crabby critics have not been able to let people enjoy this success. Their latest wet blanket attempt focused on diminishing an award given by the Sports Industry Awards Asia (SPIA) to the Philippine Southeast Asian Games Organizing Committee (PHISGOC) meant to recognize the excellent hosting of the 2019 Games.

Netizens, however, were able to quickly see through the biased attacks. Mindavote’s post regarding the obvious attack these media outlets were making against PHISGOC chairman and Speaker of the House Alan Peter Cayetano quickly went viral.

Many comments pointing out crab mentality flooded in, with many more expressing their support of the Games, their distaste for biased reporting, and their praise of PHISGOC’s hosting.
