August 26, 2016 — The New People’s Army (NPA) today released two police officers it had captured in separate incidents in Davao Oriental earlier this year.

Police Regional Office (PRO) 11 spokesperson Chief Inspector Andrea dela Cerna said Chief Inspector Arnold Ongachen of the Governor Generoso Municipal Police and Police Officer (PO)1 Michael Grande of Lupon arrived by helicopter at around 3 p.m. at the Eastern Mindanao Command (Eastmicom)-Camp Felix Apolinario Naval Forces Camp in Panacan, Davao City.

The two, however, were kept away from the media pending the arrival of President Rodrigo Duterte, who was the guest speaker at the 10th anniversary celebration of the Eastmincom.

Ongachen and Grande were received by Eastmincom commander Lieutenant General Leonardo Guerrero and regional police director Chief Superintendent Manuel Gaerlan about an hour after their arrival.

A military official who requested anonymity said the two were accompanied by Senator Manny Pacquiao on board the helicopter. They were fetched by ambulances inside the military camp.
