President Rodrigo Duterte has accepted the resignation of his son, Paolo Duterte, as vice mayor of Davao City. Signing in behalf of the President, Executive Secretary Salvador C. Medialdea informed Paolo Duterte that his resignation has been “accepted effective immediately.”
Citing “delicadeza,” the younger Duterte had earlier announced that he was resigning during a special session of the Davao city council on Christmas Day.
He explained that recent controversies that maligned his reputation, which included the trumped up charges made by Antonio Trillanes that he was involved in a shabu smuggling case, as well as his public squabble with his daughter contributed to his decision.
Duterte, 42, was on his second term since 2013. Prior to being elected as vice mayor, he served as barangay chair of Catalunan Grande in the city’s first district from 2007 to 2013 and was the president of the Association Barangay Councils of Davao City from 2008 to 2013.
He will be replaced as vice mayor by number one councilor, Bernard Al-ag.
