SEPTEMBER 28, 2016 — The Davao City Prosecution Office (CPO) has given itself only up to October 14, 2016 to resolve the cases against the suspects in the September 2 Roxas Night Market bombing which killed 15 people and wounded 17 others.
In an interview, CPO spokesperson assistant city prosecutor Jay Karel Sanchez said her office started the preliminary investigation of the multiple murder and multiple frustrated murder cases after receiving the affidavits of complaint submitted by the Special Investigation Tasked Group (SITG) Night Market of the Philippine National Police (PNP) last September 14.
“I can assure you than even before the deadline the case can be resolved,” Sanchez told reporters.
A total of 14 people died immediately after the blast while a 15th victim died in hospital ten days later. Most of the victims were massage therapists while the others were their clients and passersby.
Sanchez said the CPO formed a panel composed of four prosecutors that will focus on the case so that it will not be easily dismissed due to technicalities.
Sanchez said the cases were given priority by the CPO because of a request made by the SITG to the Regional Prosecution Office for the immediate issuance of warrants of arrest for the suspects.
The police had filed charges against the person who left the bomb at the massage are of the night market but the identity has not been divulged for security reasons.
