Rappler is a drama queen. It’s obscene and very obviously a blogsite posing to be a credible news source. In this latest episode of Rappler magically making drama appear where there was one, we present this article:
Instead of simply reporting the news, Rappler decided to be its usual inflammatory self and focus on the fact that Speaker Cayetano was congratulated by Chinese Ambassador Zhao. The intention of Rappler is obvious – to paint China as some seedy bad guy who is obviously trying to infiltrate the very institutions of our Democracy and corrupt our country before our very eyes. And of course, Speaker Cayetano and everyone else pro-administration is simply a willing pawn in this game.
Except, that’s all bullshit.
Rappler bases its spun story on that “It is rare for a Philippine lawmaker to receive congratulatory messages from a foreign country. “
Now, let’s be clear. This is not true. Rappler is spinning a story and we for one want to be responsible and warn you about their sinister intentions.
Let’s present the evidence.
Firstly, here are some examples of Philippine politicians being congratulated by foreign ambassadors for being elected to the very same position, Speaker of the House. Let’s look at this one, where former Speaker Arroyo was congratulated by US Ambassador to the Philippines Sung Kim in 2018.
Here is the Iranian Ambassador congratulating Speaker Arroyo as well:
Now here’s an article from Rappler themselves showing the Ambassadors of Australia, South Korea, and Myanmar all pay courtesy visits to former Speaker Arroyo to, again, congratulate her election.
Now, here are some international examples to show that this really isn’t that rare anywhere in the world:
Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress of China Li Zhanshu congratulating Chuan Leekpai for being elected President of the National Assembly and Speaker of the House of Representatives of Thailand.
So truly, is this rare? At best it’s a trend of recent popularity. Maybe it’s due to improved foreign relations. Whichever way, the story churned out by Rappler’s sad excuse of a “journalistic” team is nothing but propaganda meant to divide people and create paranoia.
