Red October’ is over: Lorenzana

- in Philippines, Politics

Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana told the press on Friday that “Red October”, the rumoured underground plot to oust the government, is now officially dead.

“Red October” is supposedly scheduled to start on October 17, to coincide with the international celebration of Marxism and the Indigenous Peoples’ Month.

When asked in an interview whether he still considered the plot to be a threat, Lorenzana said “Lusaw na (It has already been dissolved)”, and that the plotters have “scampered away”.

Lorenzana thanked the Armed Forces of the Philippines and their tactic of publicly airing the details of the plot for leading to its dissolution.

“Eh nung ilabas ng AFP sila nagpulasan na, kaya hindi na matutuloy (When the report was made public, the plotters fled),” he added.
