Speaker of the House Alan Peter Cayetano released a statement on Monday to address the ongoing House deliberations on the proposed 2020 Budget.
“The 2020 national budget should be the vehicle for national development and further President Rodrigo Duterte’s vision for a safe and comfortable life for every Filipino,” said Cayetano.
“The House leadership, in a meeting today, sorted out all issues as to the procedure and goals for the 2020 budget.
“We assure the public that budget will be scrutinized but will not be delayed and will be transparent. Pork and parking have no place in the 2020 budget.
“I have requested all departments and agencies to submit the written presentations of their respective budget proposals before 5 p.m. Tuesday, September 3, in line with the commitment of the House leadership to the President that the approval of the 2020 General Appropriations Bill will be swift and timely.
“Thereafter, the rules committee will refer the 2020 GAB to the committee on appropriations for its consideration.”
Speaker Cayetano and House leaders, including the vice chairs of the appropriations committee chaired by Davao City Rep. Isidro Ungab, met today to discuss any possible misunderstandings or confusion in the lower house during the last few weeks of budget deliberations.
House leaders remain committed to passing the budget on third reading before the House adjourns for a month-long break.
The Department of Budget and Management submitted their propose P4.1 T budget to the House of Representatives on August 20. House deliberations began a record two days later.
Speaker Cayetano said that “The House will ensure the passage of a national budget that is constitutional, legal, transparent and accountable.”
