MANILA, September 13, 2018 — Special Assistant to the President (SAP) Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go today said Senator Antonio Trillanes III is up to his old trick of hiding behind parliamentary immunity as he accuses government officials of various offenses.
In an interview, Go said he wants to be given a chance to grill Trillanes in the Senate inquiry the latter is reportedly planning but added he knows Senate rules do not allow it.
“Bilang mamamayang Pilipino, sana mapagbigyan din po ako ng pagkakataon na magtanong din sa kanya. After niya akong tanungin, ako naman ang magtanong sa kanya,” he said.
(As a Filipino citizen, I hope they would allow me to ask him questions also. After he’s done asking me questions, it would be my turn to ask him.)
But Go said he knows this will not happen and that Trillanes is using this Senate rule to protect himself from counter-charges.
Still, Go said he is looking forward to having another face-off with the senator, saying it would give him a chance to clear his and his family’s name.
“I am very excited for another Senate face-off, part two with Mr. Trillanes po. Hinihintay ko po, kahit bukas na agad, ipatawag niyo na ako,” Go said.
(I am waiting. I am ready, even tomorrow. Please summon me.)
Go said Trillanes’ accusations against CLTG Builders, which is owned by Go’s relatives, are baseless since he has never used his position to help it bag government projects.
“I observed delicadeza. Pinagbawalan ko talagang pumasok ‘yung mga kamag-anak ko sa City Hall, kasi under po sa amin ‘yun. Dito po sa national, hindi po natin pwedeng ipagkait ‘yung negosyo. Ang importante po doon, walang kurapsyon. Pangalawa, hindi po ako nakialam. Pangatlo, wala akong pinakialaman, wala akong tinawagan. I never influenced anybody from DPWH,” Go said.
(I observed propriety. I did not allow my relatives to enter Davao City Hall because it was under our supervision. In the national arena, we cannot stop them from doing business. What’s important is that there is no corruption. Second, I did not interfere. Third, I did not intervene, I did not call anyone. I never influenced anybody from DPWH [Department of Public Works and Highways].)
At the same time, Go hinted that Trillanes himself and his family may have been involved in irregularities.
“Nag-observe ba si Trillanes ng delicadeza noong panahon na siya ay sundalo at ang kanyang tatay ay sundalo? Ang nanay niya po ay supplier sa Armed Forces of the Philippines,” he said.
(Did Trillanes observe propriety during the time when he was a soldier and his father was a soldier as well? His mother was a supplier of the Armed Forces of the Philippines).
Go said because he cannot directly question Trillanes in the Senate, he would leave the investigation to the proper authorities.
