Even though the entire country has #SEAGamesFever and is swamped with excitement for the coming Opening Ceremonies, the Philippine government is still pushing forward with its holistic development plans. Just today, 100 flagship infrastructure projects have been approved by the National Economic Development Authority. Build, Build, Build is still a go!
Among these projects are two major highways for the hometown of Vice President Leni Robredo: the Pasacao-Balatan expressway and the Camarines Sur expressway.
The Duterte administration has invested heavily in improving the country’s lack of infrastructure systems. While a number of these projects are located in the capital, Metro Manila, even more are in the Regions and provinces who sorely need better roads, highways, and services.
Robredo has been a harsh and vocal critic of the Duterte administration, despite her post as the second-highest Executive. However, as NEDA has shown today, Robredo’s stance has nothing to do with the service her province gets from the Philippine government. It seems that the SEA Games slogan of #WeWinAsOne is not just the mantra of the sporting even,t but a general call to action of the administration to highlight good governance and public service over politics. There is no place for agendas in the welfare of all Filipinos.
