On June 20 and 21, 2016, incoming Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez convened 450 business leaders from all over the country for a two-day event dubbed “Sulong Pilipinas: Hakbang Tungo sa Kaunlaran,” a consultative workshop to “challenge the business community to build coalitions for change in every sphere of our social life.” This was the first-ever public consultation held by an administration even before formally assuming office. It was also the first of a continuing dialogue with the various sectors of society.
Secretary Dominguez expressed hope that with the two-day dialogue, the public and private sectors could jointly start refining the reforms that would be put in place over the next six years. “From the onset, let me assure you that the new administration will be guided by what is best for the nation,” he said.
This is really motivating and inspires confidence that the new administration is serious about consultative governance to achieve inclusive growth. This is a government that will be most responsive to the needs of its citizens.
