MANILA, October 24, 2016 (PNA) — Two drug suspects were killed when the Philippine National Police (PNP), in cooperation with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), dismantled a clandestine shabu (methamphetamine hydrochloride) laboratory in Cauayan City, Isabela last Sunday.
In an interview, PNP Director General Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa said the shabu laboratory is “high tech” and capable of producing a minimum of 200 kilos and a maximum of 400 kilos per cycle.
“So you can just imagine if every week it can produce 400 kilos, the distribution of this will be widespread,” he said.
Dela Rosa said unlike the shabu laboratory discovered in Arayat, Pampanga last September, the one in Isabela has already made test productions.
He said the PDEA, Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), and the Police Regional Office-2 (Cagayan Valley) started surveillance on the drug facility in December last year.
A search warrant was issued on Sunday afternoon by Quezon City Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 97 Executive Judge Bernelito Fernandez against Kim Punzalan Uy with aliases “Kim,” “Atong Lee,” “Lo Chi,” “Chua,” and “Lung” of No. 101 Prenza, Maharlika Hi-way, District 1, Cauayan City Isabela.
Another search was issued by the RTC on Sunday afternoon against the same personalities in Rose Marie Reyes Street, District 1, Cauayan City, Isabela.
The simultaneous implementation of the two search warrants was jointly conducted by composite teams composed of operatives from the PNP and PDEA.
The implementation of the search warrant in Prenza resulted in a firefight between the composite assaulting team and suspects.
Killed on the spot were Kim Punzalan Uy and an unidentified man.
Recovered from the crime scene were voluminous chemical precursors and essential chemicals, laboratory equipment, and apparatus used in the manufacture of shabu, one caliber .45 pistol with live ammunition, one 9mm machine pistol, one beige Toyota Hi Lux with plate no. ABB-3553, and assorted documents.
Recovered pieces of evidence in Rose Marie Reyes Street, Cauayan City, Isabela were one revolver .38 with six ammunition, four shotgun shells, one colt defender pistol with two magazines, and five ammunition for cal .45.
Police said Uy, who was confirmed as operating a clandestine laboratory in Cauayan City, is a known drug syndicate member with connection to Mike Lee, Ahong and Atong Drug Groups that actively engages in the proliferation of illegal drugs in the Philippines. (Perfecto T. Raymundo/PNA)
