All 8 souls aboard a Lion Air flight departing from NAIA late Sunday evening have perished as the aircraft was engulfed in flames shortly after takeoff.
“Unfortunately, no passengers survived the accident,” said the Manila International Airport Authority.
The aircraft was bound for Tokyo (Haneda) via Cebu.
Initial reports indicate that the plane lost control while executing take off procedures at around 8 pm. Aboard were three flight crew, a flight medic, nurse, doctor, one patient and their companion.
Several sources are alleging that the aircraft was chartered by the DOH to bring medical supplies to other areas of the country.
The plane was a light aircraft with tail number RP-C5880. The Bureau of Fire Protection stated in their initial report that the aircraft was operated by Lion Air. The incident happened at the end of NAIA Runway 24.
Authorities have since declared fire out.
