After years of delay, the Cavite leg of the LRT-1 line will soon begin construction by this month, April.

“Magsisimula na ngayong Abril ang ACTUAL CONSTRUCTION ng LRT-1 Cavite Extension na magdurugtong sa Baclaran at Bacoor, Cavite,” read a statement by the Department of Transportation which was posted to their official Facebook page.

The LRT-1 extension project would add a number of stations to the already existing 20 on the line. Currently, the rail runs from Roosevelt in Quezon City to Baclaran in Pasay City. The extension would add stations in Aseana, Manila International Airport, Asia World, Ninoy Aquino, and Dr. A. Santos stations in Parañaque City, Las Piñas and Zapote stations in Las Piñas City, and Niog station in Bacoor, Cavite.

The end of construction is being projected by the DOTr and the management of the LRT to finish by the fourth quarter of 2021.

This project spans a total of 11.7-kilometers and costs P64.8 billion.  It is also expected to increase the passenger load capacity of the line from 300,000 daily passengers to 800,000.
