MANILA, December 6, 2016 (PNA) — Senator Alan Peter Cayetano on Monday urged critics to leave President Rodrigo Duterte out of rumors that there is a plot to help former Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. “steal” the vice presidency from Vice President Maria Leonor “Leni” Robredo.
“If there is a feud between Vice Presidentiables, they shouldn’t involve the President,” Cayetano told reporters in an interview.
Cayetano, a staunch supporter and running mate of President Duterte during the election, said that although it was obvious that Marcos “wanted to be Vice President,” he firmly believes Robredo won.
“It’s not a matter of what I think, it’s a matter of who really won. And right now, the presumption is that Leni Robredo won,” he said.
Cayetano pointed out that for there to be a plot to steal Robredo’s proclamation, the Presidential Electoral Tribunal should also be involved.
“Unless the Presidential Electrical Tribunal says otherwise, then she (Robredo) is Vice President. Is it correct for them to be vigilant? Yes. But is it fair to involve the admin? It’s not,” Cayetano said.
“I know for a fact that the admin is not moving one way or the other because the election is over. There’s too many things that are too urgent for us to focus on politics,” he added. (Azer N. Parrocha/PNA)
