Davao band THEA (‘THI-YA’) has officially made it to the International Songwriting Competition (ISC) Finals Adult Album Alternative (AAA) category.

Emerging among the top 4 in the People’s Voice Category in the ISC among 16,000 bands world wide, Thea is the Philippines’ lone representative to make it to the finals.

And the competition is not over yet as voting ends on April 14, 2017. With less than a week to go, we can still support our very own by voting and sharing.

The annual International Songwriting Competition is an opportunity to musicians, artists and songwriters to be heard in the international scene. Previous winners include New Zealand pop singer Kimbra, British pop act Bastille, Australian singer-songwriter Vance Joy and English singer-songwriter Passenger.

Thea is an Indie Folk Fusion band in Davao City led by Thea Pitogo, lead vocalist and ukuleleist. With Thea are equally talented musicians Ronald Tubio, lead guitarist and second vocals; Topee Lim, acoustic guitarist and second vocals; Paul Jaso (also known as ‘Jepax’), bassist; Darryl Tingzon, keyboardist; and Jasfer Pala, drums.

Thea Pitogo started playing as a solo artist while she was studying in Davao City. She met Toby in Jazzistas de Davao (a local organization for musicians). She was then introduced to Darryl, Jasfer, and Jepax and then later on met Topee and Khail Tuboro (Music Producer) through Deby Binalla, former band photographer and videographer. Thea recognizes Bob Dylan, Bob Marley, Rey Charles, Simon and Garfunkel, Mumford and Sons and Joan Jett as her biggest influences, to name a few.

The band, then named Thea Pitogo, released their first EP last July 5, 2014, entitled Love More. Their second EP, The Wise and the Wiser, was launched on May 23, 2015. Both EP launches had sold-out tickets and albums for their exclusive one-night-only shows.

One of their first singles, Stole My Heart, catapulted their fame in local radio stations, and gigs all over the country. Thea has also collaborated with Propane the Great (based in L.A. and Manny Phatbeatz (based in Vietnam) to produce an EDM remix EP for the single “How Do You Love”.
