DAVAO CITY, July 1, 2017 — President Rodrigo Duterte has ordered the government to shift the policy from disaster consciousness to disaster resilience.
Executive Order No. 29, signed by the President on June 28, renames National Disaster Consciousness Month to National Disaster Resilience Month.
According to the text of the document, the government will now be “shifting its focus from disaster awareness building to disaster resilience.”
Duterte ordered the National Disaster Risk Response and Management Council to take the lead in the preparation, coordination, organization, and implementation of the programs and activities for the observance.
Regional disaster councils up to the barangay level have also been ordered to participate.
“Moreover, the NDRRMC is hereby authorized to call upon any department, agency, office, and instrumentality, including the private sector and civil service organizations, for the necessary assistance in the discharge of its functions,” the text of the EO said.
