Duterte administration will not be distracted by mudslinging detractors

Andre Gabriel Custodio Esteban, an 11-year-old Filipino boy from Fresno, California, wrote a letter to President Duterte, shared by his mother on Facebook.

The Duterte administration has kicked off more major projects for its ‘Build, Build, Build’ program and the latest SWS survey revealed that a majority of Filipinos say they observe less drug users in their communities, yet critics of the government refuse to see these positives and continue to disparage these achievements.

Despite the best efforts of vocal detractors, Malacañang said on Saturday that the administration remains focused on bringing genuine change to the nation.

“While detractors of this Administration consistently deliberate on how to mudsling the President’s achievements, we remain focused on how to improve the lives of our countrymen through projects that will bring about genuine change for the nation,” Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said in a statement.

Panelo said that both the ‘Build, Build, Build’ program and the war on drugs have seen positive results. He cited data from the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) which said that the government’s infrastructure and other capital outlays increased to 665.1 billion within the first 10 months of 2018. This is a jump of 50.3 percent from the P442.7 billion recorded in the same period in 2017.

“The economic horizon appears to be bright per our economic managers. The economic measures placed by them have curbed inflation and the prices in the market have gone down,” he said.

HSBC’s latest predictions place the Philippine’s growth rate as the leader of the Asian pack. The financial institution likewise predicted that inflation will settle at less than 4 percent by year’s end.

‘Build, Build Build’ has kicked-off, despite facing some delays due to what Panelo referred to as”bureaucratic rigmarole caused by the legal restraints and resort to judicial remedies by the losing bidders”. President Duterte is currently facing these legal concerns in accordance with the Constitution.

“The government’s Build Build Build program has already gone out from the burner and many of our grandiose infrastructure initiatives have commenced,” he said.

Panelo also emphasized the success found by the administration in their war on drugs. So far, more than a million drug addicts and pushers have surrendered to the government and submitted to recieving treatment and rehabilitation. Drug syndicate members have been arrested, drug lords have been neutralized, and illegal shipments have been intercepted.

“The vigorous legal process effectively contained the drug addiction to about three million Filipinos. Without the continuing battle against the destroyers of families, the number of our drug enslaved countrymen could have reached a staggering ten million Filipinos which could probably include the families and relatives of the detractors of the anti-illegal drug campaign,” Panelo said.

The Presidential Spokesperson said that the war on drugs came with a “price to pay”. The success of the program has resulted in the loss of 162 police personnel and over 700 injuries for law enforcers during anti-drug operations.

“Such is a small price to pay to secure the safety of the nation from the scourge of prohibited drugs,” he said.

Critics of the government would focus on the negative of these achievements, completely ignoring the positives brought to Philippine society.

Panelo pointed to opposition-critics who are vocal in their criticism of Duterte, but who failed themselves to initiate any major reforms during their time in office. He said that the Duterte administration is ignoring a detained senator who “has described the Build, Build, Build program, ‘grossly inefficient’, among other nonsensical descriptives and false narratives.”

“We will ignore her rantings as her senses apparently have flown to the cuckoo’s nest. We will just watch her in amusement as she cantankerously pontificates like a headless chicken running berserk,” he said.
