DAVAO CITY, January 25, 2017 — President Rodrigo Duterte is scheduled to lead the Ceremonial Switch-On of the Sarangani Energy Corporation’s 105 Megawatt Section and Groundbreaking of the Second 105 MW Section in Barangay Kamanga, Maasim, Sarangani Province on Thursday, January 26.
According to the Department of Energy, the move is part of the administration’s efforts of “encouraging the private sector to pour more investments in power generation that will provide the country with stable, affordable and sufficient energy supply as part of its comprehensive socio-economic agenda until 2022.”
Joining Duterte on Thursday is energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi, with the event tentatively scheduled in the afternoon.
The Sarangani Energy Corporation is one of the entities under the Alsons Group of Companies.
The company runs a 210MW coal-fired power plant in the area, which is expected to provide power for the southern and south central Mindanao.
According to the company’s website, the first section of the plant began commercial operations in April 2016, while the next section is expected to operate by 2018.
