For the first time, a remote town in Mindanao is experiencing internet speeds that rival those of major cities in the country.
In an exclusive interview, a local executive of Globe Telecom revealed that download speed tests in Bongao, the capital of Tawi-Tawi, have reached 39Mbps, while upload speeds have registered 17.25 Mbps.
This after the company fired up both 1800Mhz and 700Mhz LTE spectrum in the area.
The Globe executive said they have been conducting tests for months now and so far the results are very promising for the people of Bongao.
“I am just happy because most of the LTE deployment are in located key cities and some tourist destinations around the country. This is the first time that a remote town in Mindanao can fully experience LTE,” the executive, who happens to hail from Mindanao, said.
Bongao is the capital municipality of Tawi-Tawi with a population of 100,257 people with 35 barangays. It is the home of Mindanao State University -Tawi-Tawi College of Technology and Oceanography (MSU-TCTO).
