Indonesian Wushu representative Edgar Xavier Marvelo bagged two Gold medals for his stellar performance yesterday in the 30th Southeast Asian Games. The young athlete was able to bag the Gold for both the
men’s Gunshu and Daoshu events of Wushu. However, tears of pride quickly turned to tears of grief as he was given the sad news of his father’s passing. In an incredible coincidence, Marvelo’s father had passed in the same moments when his song was taking home the highest honors for his events.

The official 2019 SEA Games page covered Marvelo’s touching story and offered their sympathies for the young man’s loss.

Marvelo’s teammates supposedly kept the news of his father’s passing from him so he wouldn’t get distracted from the competition. Winning the Gold at the SEA Games was Marvelo’s dream.

After Marvelo’s victory, his teammates broke the news to him. They were all in tears after his bittersweet moment of triumph.

Marvelo posted a photo to his Instagram on Tuesday where he was showing off his two gold medals and proudly carrying the Indonesian flag. He captioned the touching post “2 Gold Medals, for Papa”.
