MEDICAL CITY ISSUES STATEMENT CALLING PPE RAIDS FAKE NEWS

In possibly the worst April Fool’s joke ever, opportunistic individuals spread several fake reports from “insiders” claiming that hospitals are being raided for donations by the government in order for them to be repackaged with Senator Bong Go branding. These “reports” are absolutely false and have been categorically denied by The Medical City, which most chain messages focused on.

Obviously, this fake news was spread by people hoping to take advantage of the country’s vulnerable state. Instead of focusing on COVID-19, this fake news intentionally weakens and discredits our own healthcare system for political purposes. It is nothing but a political attack against Senator Bong Go and the administration.

It is a worrying sign of our democracy that people who cannot accept the fact that they are part of the minority are resorting to misinformation techniques to destabilize the government. President Duterte and his administration allies, including Senator Bong Go, won by landslides (which is more than we can say for alleged VP Leni Robredo). Their politics may not be what some voters would have preferred, but our nation as a whole deserves more than fake news. Offer criticism, don’t spread panic.

We encourage all our readers to be more deliberate with the information they spread. Check sources. Be informed and be vigilant against those who would want to take advantage of you.
