The country is coming together to support the countless Filipinos who have been affected by Taal’s ashfall. Since Sunday, millions in donations and government funds have been channeled towards the CALABARZON region. After the safe evacuation of residents in the danger zone, efforts will turn to focus on rehabilitation, recovery, and rebuilding from the natural disaster.
Affected citizens are living in evacuation centers until the natural disaster concludes. They had to leave their belongings, homes, and lives when Taal erupted. The funds coming in for their benefit will be critical to the rebuilding of their livelihoods.
However, it seems that some people are seeing this calamity as a photo opportunity. And by some people, we’re talking about alleged-VP Leni Robredo.
Netizen Artanacla Oallop called out the so-called “relief operations” Robredo conducted in Batangas. It seems that she gave out a measly 5 pandesals and a bottle of water to each evacuee, despite the millions of pesos allocated her office. The cost of these goods is less than 1 USD per person.
But of course, Robredo earned herself a good press opportunity from the fake humanitarian action. If she hadn’t been called out, the press would have been able to get away with pretending that she actually went to help.
