Netizen Ruth Duplito Dioso took to Facebook to express her pain and grief over the tragic and sudden loss of her nephew, Darwin Dormitorio.
Dormitorio was a Philippine Military Academy graduate hopeful. He, like many Filipino youths, aspired to join the ranks of our country’s protectors. But what he found in the academy was far from safety. He was subjected to “hazing”, a fraternal euphemism for torture. This young man succumbed to grave internal injuries, particularly to his kidneys.
Here in Mindanation, we condemn criminal acts, no matter who committed them. Institutions are not above the law, and we stand with the family in their call for justice. Our support of the Philippine military includes out respect for its future officers. Hazing is torture and this is a crime in all senses of the word.
Netizens also expressed the same damning opinion. It’s clear: it’s time to end this barbaric tradition. Act like human beings.
