Former President and current Speaker of the House Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo spoke on Tuesday to address the possibility of her taking on the role of governor of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP). She called the talks purely “hypothetical”.

The BSP’s previous head, Nestor Espenilla, passed away on Saturday. Espenilla served as Deputy Governor for the Supervision and Examination Sector of the BSP during Arroyo’s term as the chief executive.

Arroyo on Monday offered her condolences to the grieving family of Espenilla.

However, her reference on Tuesday to her possibly filling the role of BSP governor did not sit well with many netizens. Macapagal’s term as president was plagued with corruption allegations, most notably the pork barrel scandal. People haven’t forgotten, as evidenced by these hilarious comments left by Facebook users on a news article about the issue.

Many referenced Arroyo’s reputation for corruption:

These netizens didn’t hold back on the emotions or dramatics:

This guy just said what he was thinking (very straight to the point, sir):

This was also left on the post and we just want to share it here cause it’s funny:

The list of possible successors of Espenilla are the three current Deputy Governors of the BSP – Diwa Guinigundo of the Monetary and Economics Sector, Maria Almasara Cyd Tuano-Amador of the Corporate Services Sector, and Chuchi Fonacier of the Financial Supervision Sector.

While Arroyo referred to her own bid as “hypothetical” and said the possibility of her taking the position is realistically little to none, the people have spoken and declared it across the board a bad idea.
