Criticism against the SEA Games has been coming on in waves recently. Media outlets are over-exaggerating tiny details, misreporting facts, and even point-blank lying in an attempt to twist the narrative of the event into being a failure. However, any discerning viewer is able to see that the Games are most definitely not a failure. In fact, excitement is building up for the fast-approaching opening.
The overwhelming public support for the Games seems to have soured the mood of certain parties who are still set on politicizing the athletic event. Rather than supporting the nation as it hosts the biggest SEA Games ever, these parties are busy taking apart the SEA Games budget and crying pork. We’re talking about Seantors Franklin Drilon and Ping Lacson, who have been so busy attacking House Speaker and PHISGOC chairman Alan Peter Cayetano that they seem to have forgotten that they approved the SEA Games budget themselves just a few short months ago.
Speaker Cayetano, however, is not one to back down from a slanderous challenge. While netizens defend the SEA Games from the malicious attacks of mainstream media, Speaker Cayetano is stepping up himself to shut down the nasty rumors being spread by his former colleagues in the Senate.
“There’s news today na sabi ni Senator Lacson eh para daw Napoles, sabi ni Senator Drilon ‘yung kaldero ni Cayetano,” said Speaker Cayetano during a speech in an event in San Juan.
“I’m willing to have a lie detector test, kaming tatlo and I can look anyone in the eye, ni singko wala kaming kinita rito sa SEA Games, abonado pa nga kami dahil sa mga nangyari” he continued, raising the lie detector challenge against himself and Seng. Lacson and Drilon.
It’s a curious fact that the Senators are choosing now to attack the SEA Games, especially on matters that they should have known about since last year’s budget season.
“Nagtataka ko sa mga senador kung bakit sila nagtataka kung bakit nasa DFA eh inapprove nila,” Cayetano said. The budget for the SEA Games was originally placed under the 2019 Department of Foreign Affairs budget, where Cayetano was then serving as Secretary.
In fact, to dispel any further rumors, Speaker Cayetano said that he has ordered for a letter to be sent to the Commission on Audit, requesting for an independent audit on the funds of the SEA Games.
Obviously, Speaker Cayetano is both tired of the smear campaign and ready to all out people’s bluffs.
In the same interview, he said that those behind the negative campaigns, especially those who may be behind the machinations of it all, will soon be held responsible. The demolition job will not go unaccounted for.
“Basta’t handa ako sa imbestigasyon after the SEA Games, humanda rin kayo sa imbestigasyon kasi i-unmask ko rin kayo. I will also unmask those people who shamelessly o mga walang hiya na gusto talagang sirain ang ating bansa,” said Cayetano.
Are you ready for this? You brought this upon yourself and now you will have to lie in the bed you’ve made.
