President Rodrigo Duterte and Senator Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go witnessed the Change-of-Command and Retirement Ceremony for outgoing Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief of Staff General Noel Clement at Camp Aguinaldo on Saturday, January 4, where the President also expressed his confidence and full support for the new AFP chief Lieutenant General Felimon Santos, Jr.
“Under the command of General (Felimon) Santos, I am confident that the AFP will achieve more milestones to protect our freedom and democratic values. It is my hope that you will carry out programs that will elevate the competence and integrity of our uniformed personnel,” Duterte said during his speech.
“Be assured that this administration will always assist men and women of the Armed Forces of the Philippines as we overcome the challenges we face as a nation. I trust that you will work in unison [with] the incumbent chief of staff Lieutenant General Felimon Santos Jr., as you remain steadfast in protecting our country against lawlessness and terrorism,” he added.
In past interviews, Go has also expressed his trust and gratitude to the armed forces for their commitment to ensure peace and stability in the country.
“Salamat po sa inyong serbisyo sa bayan, hindi po magiging matagumpay ang administrasyon ni Presidente Duterte kung wala ang inyong tulong,” Go said.
Meanwhile, Go encouraged the AFP as well as the PNP to continue working hard for the betterment of the country. He also pledged to reciprocate all their efforts with his support in promoting their welfare and in pushing for fast, accessible and quality government services for their families and the rest of the Filipino people.
“Makaaasa po kayo na ako ang magiging kasangga ninyo sa Senado. Kung ano man po ang pwede naming maitulong kahit sa kamag anak ninyo, kung kailangan ng pagpapagamot, do not hesitate to approach me. Huwag po ninyo akong ituring na isang Senador, ituring niyo lang po ako na isang kasamahan ninyo sa pagseserbisyo natin sa kapwa nating Pilipino,” he said.
