Rape suspect Mohamad Akmad, 46, was shot dead by police officers after he allegedly grabbed the pistol of a policewoman and shot her. The incident happened in the town police station of Parang, Maguindanao during Akmad’s photo and documentation session.

According to Colonel Ibrahim Jambiran, the suspect was brought in for rape charges. The investigation into the incident showed the policewoman was injured as she was taking Akmad’s mugshot and processing his documentation. Akmad grabbed the officer’s weapon, shooting and injuring her and firing at several other. Responding police neutralized the armed suspect as he attempted to escape the police station.

Col. Jambiran directed his subordinates to bring the injured officer and the suspect to the Regional Health Service of the Police Regional Office – Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (PRO-BARMM), also in Parang town, where the officer was declared out of danger by her attending physician and the suspect was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police reports on the incident have not yet identified the injured officer, though she reportedly heads the women and children protection desk.
