David Lambert, coach of the Singaporean men’s underwater hockey team, came here to the Philippines hoping to score gold. While here, he was impressed by the Philippines’ hosting of the Games, even going so far as to compare the biennial regional sports meet to the Olympics.
In an interview on the sidelines of an underwater hockey match in Imus, Cavite, Lambert recounted his pleasant experiences in the Philippines. He complimented the accommodating nature of the Filipinos, saying that his team has been given every attention. Of course, he had to give a nod to the famous Filipino friendliness.
He also said that the Games had an Olympic-type feeling. Lambert, who had previously coached the Australian underwater hockey team, said that the 20th SEA Games could compete with the worldwide athletic meets he had participated in before.
“The set-up, the venue, and everything – it was just fantastic,” said Lambert.
Both the men’s and women’s Singaporean underwater hockey teams brought home gold for their performances in the 2019 SEA Games.
